91st Bradford Rainbows, Brownies & Guides
We are the 91st Bradford Brownie pack, we meet at Thornbury Methodist Church on a Friday night at 6.30 – 8.00 pm our subs are £1.50 each week we also have a shop selling sweets this is run by the Guide unit.
In our meetings we work towards badges on many subjects , we show the girls various skills that will help them as they develop and grow into adults, We have lots of events fun meetings with other units, trips to the cinema, an annual trip to Flamingo Land with other units , a trip to Eureka, we bag pack once year at Morrisons this helps pay for our Christmas trip to the cinema and pay for the annual census we have to pay to headquarters for each girl this covers insurance etc.
We put a Christmas show on each year for the church and community this raises money to help the church and we have lots of fun, Guiding teaches girls self-worth and confidence how to treat each other , we don’t tolerate any form of bullying .
We have 26 girls in our unit at the moment so we are full for the moment, when the girls reach ten and a half they then go to Guides where they continue to improve and learn new skills while having fun.
Rainbows are for five to seven year olds, they then go up to Brownies then on to Guides and beyond they can then take up the Baden Powell Challenge the highest award , then on to becoming a young leader. When girls go for University places or jobs the commitment they have had in Guiding then becomes very important and opens many doors in their adult life, so the Guide journey continues.
I am very proud to be part of their lives we respect each and every one of them their culture, religion, faith and families.
